Motorized and smart window coverings in Belleville

Window coverings that move when you ask
A motorized covering opens and closes at the touch of a button. It can be a remote, a phone app, a voice command or a schedule that runs on its own. Motorized controls are an option for blinds, shades and even drapery.
For many of our clients, motorized coverings are less about gadgetry and more about comfort and an easier everyday life. You stop wrestling with heavy shades on tall windows, and you stop wondering whether you remembered to close everything before leaving.
Who it suits
Hard-to-reach windows. Stair landings, high transoms and tall windows in a great room are awkward to reach by hand. A motor means you never have to.
Large windows. Wide or heavy coverings are easier to run with a motor than a cord or chain. That matters for big County farmhouse windows and wide lake-facing glass.
Daily routines. Set shades to open with sunrise, close for privacy at night, or lower on their own to block glare on bright afternoons. If you work odd hours, you can set a schedule that suits you. Automation also helps with energy efficiency.
Remote, app and voice
You have a few ways to control motorized coverings.
- Remote. A handheld remote controls one window, a group or the whole house.
- App. Control windows from your phone, at home or away.
- Voice. Hunter Douglas systems work with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, and connect to smart home setups.
Battery or hardwired
Motorized coverings can be powered in two main ways.
Battery-powered systems are the easiest to add to an existing home, since nothing needs to be run inside the wall. Batteries need recharging or replacing from time to time.
Hardwired systems are connected to your home's power. They suit new builds and renovations, when walls are open and wiring is simple. They avoid battery changes altogether.
PowerView
As an authorized Hunter Douglas dealer, we can set you up with PowerView Automation, Hunter Douglas's motorization and smart-control system. It works with a range of Hunter Douglas coverings, so you can build a system a room at a time. We will confirm which coverings and features fit your windows and how it connects with your home setup.
Motorization with custom drapery
Motors are not just for shades. Custom drapery can be hung on motorized tracks, so the panels glide open and closed at the push of a button. We plan the fabric and the track together, so the drapery and its hardware work as one. Read more on our drapery and curtains page.
Start small
You do not need to motorize every window. Many people start with one or two, such as the bedroom or the tallest window in the house, and add more later.

Frequently asked questions
Do motorized blinds need to be wired into the wall?
Not always. Many systems run on rechargeable or replaceable batteries. Hardwired power is another option, and it is easiest to plan for during new construction or renovation. We will talk through which suits your home.
Will motorized coverings work with my voice assistant?
Hunter Douglas PowerView can be fine-tuned by remote, app, Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Compatibility depends on the system, so we will confirm what works with your setup before you decide.
Can I add motors to coverings I already have?
It depends on the covering and how it is made. The simplest way to know is to have us look at them. In many cases the best approach is to choose motorization when ordering new custom coverings.
