Floor-length sheer drapery in a Toronto condo living room

Drapery made to your measurements

When many people think about window coverings, they forget drapery. But drapery is often the perfect complement to blinds and shades, adding dimension to your windows, more light control options and countless ways to refresh your home decor.

Alicia has been sewing since she was six, and she spent years in fashion and interior design, so she knows how fabric should hang. We do not order panels from a catalogue and hope they fit. We choose fabric with you, measure your windows, and have your drapery custom made and hand finished locally by the drapery workroom we work with. The result is a panel that hangs the way it should: the right length, the right fullness, the right lining behind it.

Choosing fabric

When selecting a drapery fabric, the only limitation is your imagination. Whether you have found a fabric that speaks to you or want design inspiration, we work with you to bring your vision to life with premium fabrics like linen, velvet and silk blends.

We will bring samples to your home so you can see them next to your walls and floors, in your own light. We talk about colour, pattern, weight and how the fabric will wear. A sunny south window asks different things of a fabric than a north-facing bedroom.

Blackout and sheer

  • Blackout fabrics. Provide total darkness. A strong choice for bedrooms, nurseries and shift workers who sleep in the day.
  • Sheer fabrics. Allow soft light while adding privacy. Lovely when you want softness rather than coverage.
  • Lined drapery. Gives body and helps protect the face fabric from sun fade. Ask us what lining suits each room.

Blackout curtains

Blackout curtains are one of the most-requested things we do. A good pair covers the window generously, reaches close to the floor, and sits close to the wall so light does not slip around the sides.

For the darkest rooms, we can pair blackout curtains with a shade or blind behind them. Read more about shades and blinds.

Quality hardware

Complete the look with drapery tracks, rods and rails that are both functional and fashionable. Choose a traditional, decorative metal rod, or a rail system with a minimal profile. Matte black and brushed brass are trending. There are also motorized tracks, so you can open and close your drapery at the push of a button. See our motorized page.

Layering with blinds and shades

Drapery works well on its own and even better with something underneath. A roller shade or wood blind handles daily light and privacy, while the drapery frames the window and finishes the room. Many homeowners pair roller or cellular shades with full-length drapery. If you are building a layered window, we can plan both parts together, then measure and install everything as one project.

Frequently asked questions

Will blackout curtains really make a bedroom dark?

Blackout fabrics provide total darkness for bedrooms. Fit matters as much as fabric, so panels need to be wide and long enough to cover the window and hang close to the wall. For nurseries, shift workers and bright summer evenings, they can make a real difference.

What is the difference between curtains and drapery?

The words overlap. Drapery usually means fuller, lined, fully custom panels that hang from a traverse or rod, often floor to ceiling. Curtains tend to be lighter and simpler. We can help you decide which suits the room.

Can I use curtains and blinds together?

Yes, and it is one of our favourite combinations. Blinds or shades handle everyday light and privacy. Drapery adds softness, colour and an extra layer of light control. Layered treatments pair shades with curtains for precision plus decorative style.
