Blinds made to your windows

If you have searched for blinds near me, you have probably seen plenty of ready-made sizes. A blind that is a few millimetres off lets light leak around the edges, hangs crooked, or sits awkwardly against the trim.

At DecorChic we provide the highest quality custom blinds and shades, with the best fit and style. Ours are built to the size of your window. We measure on site, help you choose the material and finish, and our trained team installs them. We are an authorized Hunter Douglas dealer with an extensive selection, and we will tell you honestly when a different covering would suit a window better.

Window coverings in 3 easy steps

Choose your style. The right style gives you the form and function you need and adds to the comfort of your space.

Choose your materials. Pick from a broad selection of designer colours and fabrics that are pleasing to the eye and to the touch.

Choose your system. Manual or automatic operating systems and configurations let you customize your blinds to suit your needs.

Types of blinds

Blinds are adjustable slats that can be raised, lowered or tilted to control light and add privacy.

Wood blinds

Warm, timeless and ideal for living rooms and formal spaces. Wood blinds suit traditional homes beautifully, and they are best in rooms where moisture is not a concern.

Faux wood blinds

Durable and moisture-resistant. Faux wood gives you the look of wood and suits high-humidity areas like bathrooms and kitchens, as well as sunrooms and lakefront cottages where the air can be damp.

Vertical blinds

The best solution for a patio door or wide window. The slats rotate for light control and slide aside when you need to walk through.

Light control and privacy

The big advantage of blinds is that you can tilt the slats. Open them to let in the soft light off the Bay of Quinte. Tilt them partway to keep the glare off a screen. Close them fully for privacy at night.

For a very dark room, pair blinds with custom drapery or blackout curtains for full control.

Child-safe cordless options

Window cords are a known hazard for young children and pets. Cordless blinds lift and lower by hand, and some systems are motorized. We can talk you through the options for each room, especially bedrooms and nurseries. See also our page on motorized window coverings.

Measuring matters

Blinds mount inside the window frame or outside it, and each choice changes the look and how much light gets past. Windows in older homes are rarely perfectly square, so we measure in more than one place for you.

Frequently asked questions

Are cordless blinds really safer for kids and pets?

Cordless blinds remove the hanging cord, which is the part that creates the risk around young children and pets. We recommend cordless operation for bedrooms, nurseries and play areas, and we can show you the options at your consultation.

Which blind is best for a bathroom or kitchen?

Faux wood blinds are durable and moisture-resistant, so they are the usual choice for kitchens and bathrooms. Real wood is best kept to drier rooms.

Can I just measure the windows myself?

You can, but we would rather do it. Custom blinds are built to exact measurements, and custom orders are final sale, so every project starts with a professional on-site measurement. That way the fit is right before production begins.
